Where are the best places to live in boston?

I’m in the Coast Guard moving there to be stationed on the USCGC Seneca. I need to know the nice places to live, but cheap. I’ve never been to boston but i know like any city there are places to avoid.

Actually, since you’re on the Seneca in the North End, you also have northern parts of the city/area available. In addition to the areas people mentioned, look into Chelsea, Charlestown, East Boston, Somerville, and Everett. A few blocks in those areas are a bit rougher than a wimp like me would like, but you’d be fine.

Best places to live on a budget are Allston, Brighton, and Cambridge (right across the river from Boston and 5 right on the subway). You may want to avoid Roxbury and Dorchester because they can get rough.

Yup. Dorchester and Roxbury can get pretty rough…from experiance if you leave people alone in Dorchester, they’ll leave you alone too but it’s kind of uncomfortable being there..especially at night. You might want to live in a suburb on the south shore as its much cheaper there…Massachusetts has a high rate of living..
