I will be moving with my partner to Northern CA this late summer. I have tried to conduct research online, but it isn’t easy. I would love detailed feedback on what towns/cities are the best to live in along or not far from the coast that have good crime rates, good job wages, decent rental housing that is affordable, and nature and culture nearby (good restaurants, parks, etc.) Please help this is a huge move and we are trying to prepare by getting all the knowledge we can. How is Eureka, Arcata, Santa Cruz to live in?The general northern coast looks just beautiful but I am wondering if some cities/towns are better then others for what I listed above. I really hope there are several choices. Thanks for any and all help!

Rocklin is not too coastal, but it’s close enough and it’s one of my favorite, lovely little cities.

My friend and I are most likely relocating to Houston, TX this summer. We are debating on the best place to live because both are concern with safety. He has a child so I know that really is a major factor on where we live. I know all places have its crime, just looking for the one with less crime.

If you are a female, you need to be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Trust your gut feelings. Is there a lot of crime in Houston? Well, look at the supermarkets at night and you will see security guards (some are off duty HPD) carrying guns. When you starting watching the news in Houston, you will notice that almost daily, there is a shooting (often in a part of town called the southwest). Good places to live? Depends on where you are going to school or working. Do not depend on the realtor or apt finding agency to tell you what the drive time is. Do the "commute" yourself during rush hour and find out firsthand. "Inside the 610 loop" locations will often save your drive time. But look at the neighborhood– if you see young men loitering during the work day or ppl fixing cars in the street, NOT a good sign. Good towns to live in (near or completely surrounded by Houston): W. University Place, Bellaire, Sugarland, Pearland. Good neighborhoods: Meyerland, River Oaks.

Actually, since you’re on the Seneca in the North End, you also have northern parts of the city/area available. In addition to the areas people mentioned, look into Chelsea, Charlestown, East Boston, Somerville, and Everett. A few blocks in those areas are a bit rougher than a wimp like me would like, but you’d be fine.

We are relocating to Texas from Missouri and we need to know some good inexpensive places to live out there. Also anyone who knows any privately owned properties or really lieniant apartments that dont really care about credit and since we wont have and jobs yet. We are willing to pay the full term of the lease upfront, We are looking to move asap. Any help?

Pflugerville and Roundrock are just outside of Austin, Texas, which as everyone knows, is an amazing city! There’s so much to do out there, and the housing is cheaper than it is in Austin. It’s like a 45 minute drive to Austin from there where you can do tons of shopping and fun stuff like go out on the lake or whatever. It’s very pretty out there. Unless you like concrete jungles like Dallas or Fort Worth, but they are more expensive.

I’m planning to move down south and don’t know much about either of these states except for Orlando and some parts of Ga. I want to live somewhere that has recreational activities like swimming and softball and also where I would be able to have a garden and grow fruit trees and all kinds of flowering plants. I’m also an orchid lover and I know there are places where these grow naturally. I’m hoping to find a home that’s not too expensive- maybe a foreclosure home that someone needs to leave for whatever reason. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thats good to hear you want to move to the south I live in The Metro Atlanta Area (near Lawrenceville) there has actually been alot of really nice $200,000 homes getting foreclosed on lately and there usually being sold from the 170,000’s. As far as fruit trees go the Atlanta Area is good for planting Apple trees

Where are the best places for young, single, 20something professionals to live in the greater seattle area?
I will be working South of the city, I’m not worried about traffic because I’m coming from Boston which means it takes 2.5 hours to get into the city from 20 miles out. I also would prefer not to live near the colleges if possible, again I’ve come from Boston and I moved out of the city so I could get away from the students who partied every night during the week. I would like to live in Seattle and do a reverse commute, and yes I will be on the right side of the water to where I will be working.
I also have no desire to buy a home anytime soon. I am single and am selling my house in Boston. I don’t anticipate this move to be for more than 5 years and I don’t have any desire to deal with the stresses of real estate again, like I am now. While I appreciate that people think I should buy a house or "live near my work" I don’t want to know your opinion on my decision, I want to know where the best places are to live in the Greater Seattle Area.

Belltown is downtown where the action is. Queen Anne has lots going on, but not as crazy as Belltown. Ballard has lots going on, but not as crazy as Queen Anne. That oughta cover it.

My boyfriend and I might be moving to MD, and I was wondering what are the nicer areas to live in. He has to work up in Northern MD (near the PA border) and I need to work in DC area. We were looking at places in between, possibly in the Frederick area. We’re looking for something near a city, but in a safe community. Any suggestions or opinions?

If your boyfriend is working near Harrisburg living in Frederick would be an insane commute for him, honestly your best bet would be very close to the city(baltimore) if you could get a place in Mt Vernon its relatively safe and you could walk to the train, you could take the mark train to DC and he could take 83N to work. Any other way one of you is going to have a hellish commute.
