Im moving to LA in august and trying to figure out the best place to live. I love to have a good time and go out dancing, or go to a good music show, or funky restaurant. I also love eclectic little areas, and walking around.
I just moved to Tampa and they had some cool data on www.wannaknow.com for real estate, crime, restaurants, gyms etc…
I have recently excepted a role in Perth, Australia. However, live in England and therefore do not know the area at all. My role is based in Perth, however, would like to know the best areas to live around Perth but within commuting distance of Perth. Thank you
all buses departs and arrives at the Perth City or CBD. commuting is not a problem if you live within the nearby suburbs like south perth, como, east victoria park, etc.
here’s the website for transperth. you could see the timetable, number of buses and their routes.
http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/
some leaflets or brochures are also available in buses and in train stations.
there’s also a train that goes to most towns here in perth. from fremantle to armadale, thornlie, gosnells, etc.
some leaflets or brochures are also available in buses and in train stations.
goodluck and you’ll surely like it here. the weather has alwasy been nice and cool. people are really warm and friendly.
I currently live in Edinburgh but I am selling my flat. I want to move out of Edinburgh to one of these areas. There are so many places to choose from. Does anyone have any idea which is the better place to live in these areas?
I don’t live in Lothian, so I couldn’t say.
But I found a website, with some cool features to limit your search of houses and get some ideas there.
Good luck when and if you move. Sorry I couldn’t really help you.
I’m from NYC, I just moved back here from Los Angeles because I want to be closer to my family. Still, I don’t want to stay in NYC. (I do love my home, but it’s not cost effective for me to remain a resident) I just want to live close by. Any ideas on where I can find some affordable real estate (ie: 50 - 150,000 range) in other cities or towns nearby –maybe like two to three hours away? I’m looking for decent, well-rounded places that offer a multitude of options. Smaller towns are ok, but they shouldn’t be microscopic. I’m still young (in my lae 20’s) so there would have to be an 20 - 30’s crowd, some sort of nightlife or places to meet people.
As a native from LA now living in the NYC metro area also in my late 20’s, I understand where you’re coming from. Real estate here is on par with So Cal, but its the property taxes that really makes things so unaffordable. This is why my boyfriend and I have been looking in Albany as a potential for buying. You can pick up a house for as low as $35k (obviously not in the greatest area) and can find some nice properties for $150k with taxes that won’t force you to live on ramen noodles. The downside is trying to find employment there- its primarily govn’t work and seems you have to "know" people to get your foot in the door. Nightlife there is pretty good and varied from what I’ve seen and experienced. My boyfriend went to SUNY Albany and has had good things to say about it. So there’s my two cents! All the best in finding something that suits!

Our Ft was brac ‘ed so we have to move near aberdeen proving ground. What area the best places to rent on the water near there.
WELL you have the city of Edgewood in Harford county right next the the aberdeen proving grounds. and also in a neighborhood called Havre de Grace they have property on the water. near the chesapeake bay.
We are new to London & would like to find a place to live in (One Bedroom). These are some of the features that we look for about the place:
* Safe & nice neighbourhood
* Proximate to a Tube/DLR Station, Quick shopping (Tesco/ASDA…), Vegetarian Restaurants (Preferably Asian)
* Easy to commute to Waterloo / Southwark
Do we need to pay any other charges (apart from Council Tax, Gas, Water, Electricity & Television) if we stay in an apartment/condominium?
Our budget is max. £800 pcm. Please suggest us some good places that you are aware of.
Thanks in advance.
I used to live in Earlsfield. It’s 10 mins on the over head train from Waterloo. No tube from there, but frankly it’s a 5 min walk to the train station, which is 3 stops from Waterloo.
Bars and restaurants aplenty in the area, and Sainsburys and a Virgin Gym down the road.
If you need the tube, there is one at Tooting Broadway.
Earlsfield is a nice area. It’s between Tooting and Wandsworth which are not the nicest of areas, but Earlsfield is nice and is near Wimbledon and not too far from Richmond etc.
I recommend it, I could get to my office in the city in 45 mins (including walk to station) and all overhead and by bus….no tube. That’s a plus in my book. But then the tube does run late to Tooting if necessary and it’s 5 mins on the bus to Earlsfield from there.
AND….the fact that it’s not on a direct tube line means that you get more for your money when it comes to accomodation.
Just my recommendation, no clue about other areas, but I liked it there.
I currently live south of Nashville but want to move closer to the mountains. I would like to find a nice, clean, crime free community that would be a great place for a toddler to grow up. I work in healthcare so I would need to be able to find jobs in that area as well. Can anyone recommend any places? I have always wanted to live out that way.
It’s been a while since I’ve lived in Tennessee, but the Greeneville area is really nice. I spent some time there when I got out of the Army and went to school at Tusculum College just out of Greeneville. At the first sign of snow, I left for Florida, my home.
I met a nice girl there and had a ball exploring the surrounding area. We’d drive up Bald Mountain or out Paint Creek for swimming. We even drove to Cosby, TN where they put on a festival for a plant called a ramp. It was kind of like an onion. We really went to see Tennessee Ernie Ford who was the big entertainer there, every year.
It was just across the mountain to Asheville, NC and Maggie Valley. Sometimes we would just drive to Newport, TN to get a coke. The roads were typical mountain roads, fun to drive fast on.
East was Johnson City & Bristol and the site of one of NASCARS first short tracks. We went there and saw Fireball Roberts win the first Bristol 500. Entertainment was Brenda Lee. Having just come back from over two years overseas, that was fun.
CB radio was the big thing then, everyone thought he or she was like a HAM radio operator. I met an awful lot of nice people that way, even a guy from Rogersville, TN named Little Sam. He would brag he made the best corn liquior, no sugar added. That stuff smelled like it would remove paint.
Eastern Tennessee would be a nice place to live considering everyone is so nice.
Have fun
I’m planning on moving to LA soon and was wondering if there were nice places to live in outskirts of LA..that are resonably price, yet not ghetto or run down.
We see this every day in this forum: Everyone hears about the great weather in SoCal or believes they are the next great actor/model/singer, then starts looking for the "cheap, clean, and safe". It’s all about supply and demand: If it’s in SoCal, then it’s not going to be cheap to begin with. If it’s clean and safe, then it’s more expensive. If you need good schools, add a couple hundred bucks a month on top of it.
If you want to live here and enjoy the weather, then you have to pay for it. You put up with the smog and the traffic, enjoy the weather and pay your rent or mortgage. My advice is to start checking out craigslist, rent.com, and apartments.com if you are looking to rent. You’ll quickly see that the minimum rent for a non-war zone is about $1,000-$1,200 per month for a studio or 1BR. Really nice areas (like the West LA area) easily run $3,000 or more. Want to live near the beach? Expect to pay a premium.
"LA" is such a big place, there are so many neighborhoods/cities where you can live. Of course, even within a city or neighborhood, there are safer sections and less-safe sections.
In Los Angeles, some nice sections are West LA, Brentwood, Westwood, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Los Feliz, Silverlake, Eagle Rock, Encino, Tarzana, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Granada Hills, Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, West Hills, Chatsworth.
To the east: South Pasadena, parts of Pasadena, Altadena, Arcadia, Monrovia, Glendora, San Dimas, Laverne, Azusa, Rancho Cucamonga.
Along the beach: Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Torrance, Palos Verdes, Rancho PV.
In Orange County aka "The OC": Seal Beach , Huntington Beach , Newport Beach , Corona Del Mar , Laguna Beach , Dana Point , Capistrano Beach , San Clemente , Brea, Yorba Linda, Orange, Tustin, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Rancho Santa Margarita, Lake Forest
To the west: Agoura, Calabasas, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Simi Valley, Moorpark.
This is not an all-inclusive list, but it’s a start.
I want to live in a city that has a low crime rate, good malls and good places to have fun, friendly people, a city that isn’t polluted and nasty, a city that is just basically excellent.
Well these are my options:
Jeddah
Makkah
Madinah
Taif
Riyadh
Al Khobar/ Ad Dammam

Please advise me which is the best city to live in, from what I have mentioned…
Tell me which city and WHY!
…..Jeddah or Al Khobar/ Ad Dammam because you have small freedom….
